This rudder is modeled from AirDance’s aluminum cast F16 pedals, with his permission.

It’s modeled “roughly” without very accurate measurement. The reason is, although the casting by AirDance is excellent, sand casting is very extremely accurate. Since it’s not the “original” equipment, I can’t say the measurements are authentic anyway. And, I modified it a little bit for the purposes ease of constructions, particularly without casting relief. The relief is needed for sand casting process but is not for other construction methods, like lost wax casting or sheet metal + TIG welding. I do not know if authentic F16 pedals have casting relief or not, so I imagined they don’t have and took them out.

On the back, I know the authentic ones has cutouts into the axel, but the cast I have does not have them, so I do not model what I don’t know. Also, the center drilled hole for axel, I modeled it with 3/4” diameter. You can’t change it to any diameter you want.

The curves on the pedal, I measured as much as I can from the casting, then used arcs of circles to fit. Then I zoomed the screen to about 1:1 and put the casting on it to see if that fit “close enough.” These curves do not need precision. There is no function for the precision here. So, close enough to the eye is good enough. Also, I have noticed that even different batches of real parts have slightly different dimensions. Therefore, there is no point of being that accurate on these non-critical dimensions.
